The Staff College are pleased to announce a new offer for DCSs or Directors of People who have been in their first Director role for less than 2 years. Becoming a DCS or Director of People is both a privilege and a challenge. No matter how well prepared you are as a senior officer, most people find the role of DCS or DoP to be a big step. The first two years present some unique challenges as well as opportunities for growth.
This new programme is specifically aimed at you to help you develop your leadership skills and thinking as a Director and your knowledge of the wider DCS role. The programme will create a thinking space for you and will include some key core leadership constructs (such as systems leadership, personal agency, movements for change, building alliances), help you practice tools and approaches to manage the dilemmas you face in your role and establish a strong peer cohort of support and advice.
The core programme of one residential and a day event will be free of charge. The College exists to help develop the sector and as a not-for-profit organisation, any surplus funds are invested back into the sector. Alongside the programme, we will also be developing a series of subsidised applied workshops and webinars which you will have access to. Some of the applied elements include:
- The Inspector Calls – the leadership ask in inspections
- Friend or foe – what actually is a corporate director?
- Politics, politics – understanding what it means to work in a political organisation
- When the finance director becomes your new best friend – what is the senior leaders role in finance?
