ADES Summer School 2025 – Book Now

Who should attend?

We would particularly welcome ADES members who have been in post with 1-2 years’ experience or are new in post.

Why attend?

The 2025 summer school comes at a time of considerable reflection and change within education and children’s services including education Reform, curricular review and technological developments. Implementation of the Promise, UNCRC as well as ongoing pressures on public funding, attainment and additional support services all create shifting contexts for those leading and managing education services – now and in the coming years. We will take time to explore the challenges and opportunities for you in leading from the middle.

What will the programme look like?

We will hear from a number of senior Education staff from across the country including the President and Vice President of ADES, reflecting on their own experiences as well as current and future challenges. Participants will work with up-to-date system leadership theories, ideas and mental models. The programme also allows time for personal reflection. It is a great opportunity to meet with other staff early to post, compare challenges and ways of working and get a real sense of what ADES can offer you and how you can contribute.

What’s expected of you?

  • We are looking for people who want to take some time out to reflect and are keen to develop their leadership skills.
  • You will be given the opportunity to work as peers, have time for personal reflection and will explore future challenges to and for education in Scotland.
  • You will be expected to attend an online pre residential session.
  • You will be expected to carry out a short amount of pre summer school reading. You will be expected to attend both days.
  • You will be invited to join a post summer school peer learning group.
